Duke Day

The Duke’s OceanFest is held each summer in Waikiki in honor of the famous Hawaiian Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, who is remembered today as an a genuinely good person and Olympic gold medal swimmer.  Kahanamoku was one of the first men to call himself  a surfer; an esteemed canoe steersman and the Sheriff of Honolulu. He was regarded as a symbol of all that is good in Hawaii.
